The Association of Private Practicing Surveyors

The Association of Private Practicing Surveyors (APPSN) is a Sub group of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors. The group is an umbrella body for all Surveyors that legitimately practices the profession in Nigeria. The welfare of members and sanctity of the profession remain paramount to the Association.
In Ekiti State, the Association has been in existence for a while, and has continued to strive for optimal service delivery to the society, while ensuring that practitioners adhere to the statutory guidelines and extant laws.

Aims and Objectives

The aim and objectives of the Association shall be to enhance the efforts of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS), Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON), and the Association of Private Practicing Surveyors of Nigeria (APPSN) in promoting ethical conduct and adherence to established Survey laws and regulations in the surveying profession.

The Association shall pursue the following objectives:

  • Promote strict compliance with professional standards and ethical practices by regulatory authorities governing the profession.
  • Promote and enhance the reputation, visibility, and public image of Surveyors engaged in private practice.
  • Promote the welfare and professional growth of members.
  • Organize capacity-building programmes, workshops, seminars, and technical sessions to improve members’ knowledge, skills, and competence at least twice annually.
  • Investigate and address cases of professional misconduct or malpractice by any member in accordance with the guidelines and disciplinary procedures of SURCON, NIS, and APPSN.
  • Encourage partnerships and the establishment of professional consultancy networks among members.
  • Advocate for fair, standardized, and sustainable remuneration structures for surveying services rendered by members, in alignment with professional benchmarks and in collaboration with NIS.
  • Monitor economic patterns and periodically review professional scales of fees and remuneration frameworks through appropriate consultations with NIS.

Full Member

Any member who aspires to enroll as a member shall be one with SURCON Registration with active professional practice. He shall be entitled to the use of the designation MNIS (Member of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors).

Associate Member

At least a First Degree or Professional Diploma/ Post Graduate Diploma in Surveying and Geoinformatics or its equivalent recognized by SURCON. HND in Surveying and Geoinformatics. Any person who has passed the SURCON examination for Technologist with at least two years’ post qualification experience

Fellow Member

Any individual who is currently undergoing a course of study in any approved institution of surveying in Nigeria

APPSN is the recognized body of Registered Surveyors engaged in private practice in Nigeria. Our Ekiti State Branch is committed to promoting excellence, professionalism, and ethical standards in the delivery of surveying and geospatial services. Through the dedication and expertise of our members, we continue to contribute significantly to land administration, infrastructure development, environmental management, and sustainable economic growth within Ekiti State and beyond.
Our members provide a comprehensive range of professional services, including Cadastral Surveying, Topographical Surveys, Engineering Surveys, Hydrographic Surveys, GIS and Geospatial Services, Land Information Management, Remote Sensing, and other specialized surveying services. These services are delivered in accordance with the Surveyors Council of Nigeria Act, relevant laws regulating the surveying profession, and our professional Code of Ethics.

Registered Surveyors in private practice, who are members of this Association, are legally empowered under the Surveyors Law to prepare, sign, seal, and endorse Cadastral Survey Plans and other survey documents that require the signature and official seal of a Registered Surveyor. This statutory responsibility ensures the authenticity, accuracy, and legal validity of survey documents, while safeguarding the interests of landowners, investors, government agencies, and the general public.
